Well the time came and as predicted in the last update I pulled the plug and got rid of all my LM055 position. I had toyed with the idea of selling just enough to get back my initial investment money, keeping all of the profit in the shares but in the end I just liquidated the whole lot.
And what an amount it was!
This was - EASILY - the largest profit I have ever made on a trade. Previously I'd complained that I had never managed to make a four-figure profit on any of my investments. I'd got close but fell just short of that magical £1,000 figure.
Not so with this one, the profit kept going up and up and I won't lie, it was wonderful to watch.
The share was 3i Group Plc (III):
Code | Date Bought | Date Sold | Ticker | Days in Trade | Profit/Loss |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
LM055 LM055-2 LM055-3 |
11/01/2023 02/05/2023 20/12/2023 |
05/09/2025 | III | 968 | £4,385.01 |
In addition to this whopping profit there were dividends of £315.72 paid out whilst I held it.
Here's the chart with arrows indicating roughly when the investments were made:

Some of the more observant readers may remember that I spoke about LM055 getting targetted by shorters back in 2024 (see LISAMillionaire.com Update Sunday 13th October 2024).
You could read around further by Googling "shorters target 3i" and you will see several articles talking about a company called "Shadowfall" taking out a multi-million pound short against 3i. At that time the share price was somewhere in the region of £33. I closed at £39 or thereabouts and the shares got to £44 at one point.
Therefore the shorters are still underwater - if they still have the position open - and I'm very glad I dismissed their opinion and kept my money in 3i for another year. By very publically announcing their new short this company was hoping others would sell the share and help their cause. However, I've read many times by people much, much smarter than me that you can't force the market.
I try to ignore other peoples' opinions or actions when it comes to investing and here it paid off.
Other stuff
I'm working from home today having just returned yesterday afternoon from a long weekend abroad with friends - or in other words a lads' holiday. I feel surprisingly good despite the excesses of food, beer and sun.
I've been through all the inbox and addressed anything that needs addressing. Then I've checked around all my bank accounts to make sure everything is OK, no direct debits will bounce and no unexpected charges.
Once that was done I sat back and looked at the spare cash in the LISA following the sale of 3i. Selling that position freed up over 6 units of investment money. I will check out recent new 52 week highs for new positions to add in the next few days but in the meantime I added new units to LM086 and LM090 which takes them both to 3 units, the maximum I put in on any one trade.
This leaves another 4 units available going forward. I also now have a SIPP which I will be running alongside the LISA. This has far less in it at the moment but will benefit from new money being added monthly - I made the decision to use the same unit size in the SIPP as in the LISA (£1,500 at present). The first position was added to the SIPP last week and there should be enough for a second unit next month.
LISA-wise I'm confident I can add to it this tax year, maybe even the full amount. Next year I will almost certainly be able to fill the LISA as I have a loan payment finishing that is more than the monthly amount needed to max out a LISA (£333.33 per month).
I'm probably (realistically) just over halfway through my working life and I definitely should've saved more over the years. For several years I was self-employed and made no pension contributions. Looking ahead I'm far more confident I can catch up using this LISA and my SIPP - both backed up with 6 smaller pensions from various jobs I've had in the past.
I could just do with a few more shares performing as well for me as 3i did...
